My favorite sandwich in the world is an Italian Beef. I've had a few in Georgia, but they are average at best. I even order them from Chicago from Tastesofchicago.com and they are good, very good, but not like Johnnies. Whenever I fly into Chicago, I try to land around lunch, and head straight to Johnnies - which I've done twice thus far in August. It never disappoints. It used to be a cash only joint, but with COVID, they now take a card. The place is always busy, but they get the food out very quickly, simply get in line, order, pay, boom - food appears. The beef is so thinly sliced it just melts in your mouth. This past time, I ordered the Italian Beef/Sausage Combo, with sweet peppers, and hot peppers on the side. I don't like the texture of the hot peppers so i just pour the oil on the beef and it gives it the right amount of kick. My kids and wife always do the same. The charred sausage is outstanding, this is not your average Johnsonville Italian sausage. Also, 1 order of fries (which are excellent) is enough for 2 or more people. My only complaint is limited beverage menu. I'd like something other than soda or a lemon ice. Lemonade, or Gatorade would be a nice addition. Give it a try - It's the best Italian beef I've ever had. Also, in case you are wondering, my top 3 beefs in Chicago are : Johnnies, Al's, Portillo's.
